Exploring the Magic of Christmas Movies By: Makayla Evans

​Christmas movies have been known to put people in the spirit and the happy mood of Christmas for so many years. Christmas movies add a sense of nostalgia and a homey vibe to the holiday spirit and that’s what makes them so special.

Grace Salley, a sophomore at Hillgrove, favors the movie the Grinch because "It’s silly and nice, I like that it's solely focused on Christmas and it's more about the Grinch as a character rather than just the holiday itself". As this is a popular movie people use to get in the Christmas spirit, many people watch this with family or friends around Christmas rather than alone. "I wouldn’t watch it alone, because movies are usually more fun with people and the holidays are all about sharing the spirit" (Grace Salley).

Kaylani Clark, a sophomore at Hillgrove, also favors the Grinch because of the ‘sassiness’ the Grinch has. This movie has been a classic for so many years, which most families don’t get tired of. "My family watches this movie every year, consistently" (Kaylani Clark). While this movie is all about Christmas and spreading cheer, the movie does have a moral and an overall message. “To bring joy to others and not hate on what others do" (Kaylani Clark).

Connor Darby, a junior at Hillgrove, favors the movie “Christmas Vacation”. Because ‘it's a goofy comedy’. As Christmas movies do, there’s always a way it can put you in the spirit of celebration and Christmas cheer. "This movie always puts me in the spirit because it reminds me of my grandmother and how we used to laugh our butts off at this movie" (Connor Darby). As stated, this movie is also a comedy. So not only does this movie spread cheer, but there’s also many laughs involved. "My love for this movie will never lesson, it never gets any less funny for me" (Connor Darby).

Christmas is around the corner and it’s time to start celebrating. Turn on the tv’s, get with family and friends, and get your snacks. The holiday season only comes once a year, so make every second count.
