For an argument that has been debated for years, we have yet concluded. School is important; every child must go through the 13-year process to become a well-shaped or capable human being. It teaches you basic logic, grammar, and how to count forwards and backwards. But many adults have expressed that often time than not, everything they know or understand, they learned outside of school. Very vaguely is anything that you ACTUALLY need to be successful as an adult is being taught in school. Many students feel like they ARE prepared for further education, and they fully expect college to teach us more, but not life period. AnnaBeth Sheriff an 11th grader at Hillgrove High School express, “It prepare us for college by teaching us things now so we can build on them in college, and we can take what we learned to go into the workforce that we like."
Now, while there are problems in life, there is always a solution. There has been a lot of brainstorming regarding how to incorporate adult responsibilities into school life. Many students suggest different teaching techniques that allow for more open mindedness and sharing of creativity. Zakyra Phillips a 10th grader at Hillgrove High School explained, “I feel I was having more group activities in the classes and not like a lot of independent.” Other students have exclaimed that having options might encourage them more as well, “They should offer more like options for because you don't know, like, what someone may want to do and like, introduce a bunch of different things to them so they're not like, only exposed to just one thing they can know what they like.” stated by Kayla Bynum, a 9th grader at Hillgrove.
With all of this being said, life is a journey. It is what you make of it. There are some lessons that you must learn along the way. But a lot of lessons can be taught earlier so young adults don't have to keep learning the hard way. How are teens supposed to be successful without having the resources to do so.
