Many people are unhappy about the food choices at fast food chains. Most fast-food chains sell unhealthy greasy food causing people to become obese and overweight. To prevent that they are considering adding some healthy options to their menu. However, they feel that many people would not buy it. Hillgrove high school student Asiah Boston says, “Adding healthy options would decrease customers in fast food chains and their income because most people would rather fast food.” This shows that healthy options may not be so popular and can cause fast food chains to lose money and customers over time. Fast food chains have considered adding more flavor to their healthy food to see if it will attract more customers. Asiah Boston says, “Food chains could add some ingredients from the fast food into the healthy food but not the bad ingredients just the good ones." This could make the healthy food taste good but still be healthy at the same time.
Fast food chains could also offer healthy food as sides to see if it will attract customers. Highschool student Zanari Heughs says, “Food chains could offer salads, fruit salads, and sandwiches with all natural products. They could also offer vegetables as sides or a free water.” This shows that there are many ways to incorporate healthy foods into fast food menus. Another concern in adding healthy food to fast food chains is the price. Some people may not be willing to pay a lot of money for healthy food. Zanari Heughs says, “More people might be willing to spend more money on healthy food if they really care about their health and work out a lot and try to stay in shape.” This explains that the majority of people that would spend a lot of money on healthy food are people who try to stay fit. Overweight people are not likely to spend a lot of money on healthy food due to being obese and only wanting fast food.
In conclusion, fast food chains offering healthy food is many negatives and positives. Offering healthy food could cause their profit to decrease over time. Hillgrove high school student Nadia Abrams says, “Food chains could start charging less for the healthy food when they first introduce it and slowly up the price when they start to see an increase in customers.” This explains that slowly increasing the price after adding healthy food to the menu is one of the best ways for customers to stay healthy and many businesses can still be making their profit. Adding healthy food can really help the health of many people and could have many benefits by being added to fast food menus.
