Hillgrove’s One Act, Sorry, Wrong Number, performed on Hillgrove’s stage on October 16th, 17th, and 18th to present the play to students, friends, and family in hopes that they enjoyed the show.
One of this year’s One Act plays is, Sorry, Wrong Number. This thrilling play is set in New York City, New York in the 1940’s. Evelyn Young, a junior, plays Mrs. Stevenson, who is the main character in this play. “I'm an older lady who's kind of a Karen. She thinks she's entitled to everything, and everybody should be listening to her and catering to her needs. And she hears a very troubling call [about a murder], and she tries to talk to so many people, to try to get people to do something about it, but nobody's listening to her.” says Evelyn Young. This was her first main role, and she says that she “was very, very surprised. I was not expecting it at all, but I was super, super pleased and flabbergasted when I found out.” Flabbergasted is definitely the right word to describe the audience's reaction to her performance.
The actors in, Sorry, Wrong Number, practiced and prepared for the show in their free time. “We went over our blocking. We ran the show several times. I went over my lines a ton, and we're all prepared for everything.” says Jenna Murphy a junior who played first operator. Carter Stanfill, a freshman, played Sergeant Duffy, “...a police officer who the main character, Mrs. Stevenson, calls to try to report plans for a murder.” Carter explained. He “[spent] a lot of time learning and memorizing lines, learning how to like, be in character...” Carter did a terrific job at staying in character and doing his part. The audience laughed at the classic cop jokes and lines he delivered so well.
Hillgrove’s actors worked hard in rehearsals and in their free time to make sure that this One Act was the best that it could be, so if anyone says it had bad acting, just say, “Sorry, Wrong Number”.
