At Hillgrove High School transition time is 6 minutes. Some may argue that this is a reasonable time for students to get to class on time. Kloe Ellis, a sophomore attending Hillgrove High School thinks differently, “if transition time was extended, we wouldn’t be rushing how we are now, tardies would be decreasing because a lot of students have tardies and its not even their fault.” This shows that 6 minutes for transition time is deemed to be challenging to students attending Hillgrove.
In the school year of 2024-2025 Hillgrove’s bell schedule. This change has caught a lot of people off guard and is said to be confusing. Kloe Ellis has expressed her thoughts on this new change, “I miss homeroom every day because it gave us time to catch up on work in the morning, it’s weird that homeroom is after 1st block, I always accidently walk into my 2nd period.” In contrast to Kloe’s statement Ashley, a sophomore at Hillgrove says, “Homeroom on Wednesdays could be good, so we can ask homeroom teachers questions and we can have more time in other classes.” This shows that students have mixed opinions on the new schedule which could make it quite controversial.
In the past, Hillgrove’s transition time has been 10 minutes. That is only a four-minute difference from the transition time Hillgrove has currently. Micah Banks a junior at Hillgrove says, “if it were up to me, the schedule for Hillgrove would have homeroom every day, and 8 minutes between each class, and I would take hawk hours completely out, I feel like 8 minutes is a good enough time for students to able to do what they need to do and still make it to class on time”. Micah explains that 8 minutes would be a sufficient time for students to learn good time management and give students a little more leniency. This proves that transition time can have a big impact on students’ performance and productivity.
