Many students use their own goals as setting stones for their career. Camille Winston a senior at Hillgrove High School said, “I would like to better my studying habits and stop procrastinating.” Some students tend to procrastinate simply just because they would not want to do the work while some do it because they have other things to do. According to PubMed Central, “Academic procrastination is a persistent behavior in students’ academic development consisting of postponing or delaying the completion of necessary tasks and having a deadline for completion, which is associated with detriment in performance, school dropout, and loss of student well-being.” Students at Hillgrove like to focus on their GPA. While many students just pass their classes some have goals. While school is used for learning and making friends, sometimes it can cause stress. Brianna Mathis a junior at Hillgrove stated, “I was struggling in physics, and I went to tutoring to learn how to do it.” Some schools offer tutoring programs to help students catch up. According to Education next, “Recent research suggests that the number of students seeking help with academics is growing, and that over the last couple of decades, more families have been turning to tutoring for that help. Private tutoring for K–12 students has seen explosive growth both nationally and around the globe.” Most schools offer tutoring and offer it to students.
Many upper- class students decide to give the undergraduates some advice. Lindsay Mauricio a junior at Hillgrove stated, “Pay attention in class and get more sleep so that I can be ready for each day to learn”. While many juniors and seniors are almost ready to graduate and leave to college, many freshmen and sophomores still have made decisions for their future. According to Harvard Summer School, “Starting the preparation process early in high school gives you more time to identify the activities and skills you’ll need. And it’s never too early to focus on high academic achievement and begin exploring extracurriculars and volunteer work.” Students tend to wait till their senior year to start their college journey, some start earlier.
