Being a junior in high school can bring many opportunities for students to prepare for their college life. In many schools some counselors offer advisement so they can meet with students and help them with their future and decision- making. Raven Saniyah a junior at Hillgrove High School, said, “It helps them to think more about you know about certain things. It helps them get on that track.” Many juniors nowadays prefer to just have fun and not really worry about grades. Raven stated, “keeping up with my grades and GPA, because that is really, like, important in, you know, making sure that you're organized with your work, that you do all your work.” Most colleges check your grade point average to see if you’re a right fit.
Junior advisement is not always going to be a resource for students to use. Many counselors have their own way to help students beneficially. Emma Zkigovski a junior at Hillgrove High School, stated, “I use them beneficially, such as dual enrollment, GA futures, I can check my hope GPA on GA futures, which has been a major help this year.” Schools in Georgia have many resources for students to use to help plan out their future and life in college. During advisement counselors talk about many things such as college opportunities. Emma stated, “they tell us what opportunities we have, and from there, we can decide which college or university we want to go to and what, what each college provides.” Many students have many questions on the process on how to get into a college or university, so having these resources can benefit students more.
While junior advisement is beneficial some students tend to worry on wether they can get into a college. Raegan Moore a junior at Hillgrove said, “They receive support from their counselors who tell them exactly what to do and how to apply for scholarships, what they need to apply for scholarships, and it also gives them opportunities to figure out what major they want to do and what colleges they want to attend.” During junior advisement many students learn about colleges and scholarships that can alter their future.
