The best way for someone to find what they want to do after high school is to explore and see what interests them best. Depending on what classes someone prefers to take, in many cases the person might go down that career path. For example, someone who has been playing the clarinet since the sixth grade and plays it all throughout their middle school and high school years, they may want to have a future through it, like being a band director or even a band teacher. While other kids might just want to push it aside as a hobby or simply an elective or a student drawn into art may take art classes throughout high school and would want to make a career out of it, such as being an artist or a designer.
Many students attending Hillgrove High school have taken the time to sincerely figure out where they would like to see themselves in the future. Madison Bush, a Junior attending Hillgrove High school mentioned. “I see my future career being a band teacher or director.” Madison also mentioned. “I have been in band since the 6th grade, and ever since then I have always been into music and musical instruments. Some extracurricular activities I do apart are ROTC and wrestling. Otherwise, Mia, a senior attending Hillgrove High declared, “If I could do any job in the world, I would be a geriatric nurse.” Mia’s favorite classes are human anatomy and orchestra. Although Mia has a big part in theater, which was a major part of her high school years, she sees her future in human anatomy and being a nurse. Estrella Reyes Gonzalez, senior attending Hillgrove, also mentioned “I am into Art but I always wanted to go into the military to help sustain my family.”
According to E School news, around 37 percent of High Schoolers are unsure what they want to do after high school, even after graduating. People have interests in many different paths, and they chose to distinguish between hobbies and future careers.
