Game shows have been around for a long time. The first game show created was a radio game show called “The Brooklyn Eagle Quiz” and that goes all the way back to 1923. The 100th anniversary of game shows was recently celebrated in 2023, which means there are many game shows that have been created over 100 years to date! Every game show is unique and special in its own way and leaves viewers wanting more.
Catheline Evans, the parent of a Hillgrove high school student, loves game shows, "The Price is Right and Family Feud. I thought both were funny, and the hosts had a great sense of humor. They made the show really exciting" (Catheline Evans). Those two game shows are classics, and they are widely known across the world for their humorous banter. Not only that, but also the hosts. "I'd say the best hosts are Bob Barker from Price is Right and Richard from family feud because they have a great sense of humor, and they made the shows interesting and fun" (Catheline Evans). Both hosts fulfilled their careers to the fullest and made the shows enjoyable for their viewers. To be a good game show host comes with a lot of passion for that job, and it takes skill to entertain a crowd like that. Game shows are entertaining for many reasons, it just depends on what each person enjoys in watching the competition. "Growing up watching game shows with my mom made it extra fun. The screaming, the yelling, and her trying to tell the people what to do while she watches like the people can hear her. All of that made it super fun and watching people win prizes" (Catheline Evans).
Khabari Raifu, a student at Hillgrove high school, favors Family Feud. "Family Feud because I have a lot of memories with it growing up and it was very personal to me and fun to watch" (Khabari Raifu). Family Feud is a popular game show and is mostly popular with the new generation due to Steve Harvey starting to host in 2010. His career with the show has not ended, and he continues to shine his humorous light to his audience. Game shows are changing daily, and as new ones come out, it gives more of an opportunity for everyone to connect with something they enjoy. "I think game shows have gotten more inclusive with the demographic of the people they include, and I feel like maybe they got more progressive with their topics and how the game show operates. I feel like it reflects the modern era” (Khabari Raifu).
Leander Evans, the aunt of a Hillgrove high school student, enjoys Wheel of Fortune. "My all-time favorite would be Wheel of Fortune because I can always guess the answers and I think I have a great chance of winning" (Leander Evans). Going back to diversity, game shows consist of many different categories, from reality to physical based to trivia. There are many different styles of game shows and that is what makes them so unique. "Reality competitions because they're always more interesting and full of drama. It's fun and definitely entertaining" (Leander Evans). When it comes to different types of game shows, different game plans are necessary depending on each show, luck and strategy could really come into play when taking part in these competitions. "It depends on which game you're playing, though, less likely to do with luck. If you are applying to win a game off luck, then you might as well fail and accept your defeat" (Leander Evans).
Despite having favorites, it is good to admire the originality every game show has to offer. Each game show took time to create and put together, making them all special in their own ways.
