   Online apps have been impactful with connecting people, especially in current times. Online dating was introduced onto the internet  through social apps such as Facebook, Insta- gram, Tinder, Bumble, and much  more. The concept of online dating even influenced certain media apps allowing for people to meet their perfect match through any type of interaction. However, online dating also has its negative catches. To  many people, the idea of online da- ting is seen as risky, and these inter- actions can be sometimes unpredictable.  

To many individuals, online dating can be seen as an opportunity to find a date without going up to others. Abi Kirk, a student at Hillgrove High School, stated, “Well, for some people who don't like going out a lot, it could be a good way to  meet people.” Abi described, suggesting ideas on how the idea of online  dating could be a pro for some. “I think social media really promotes it a lot and gives it this kind of like image, I guess where,  like, oh, it's so much better than actually meet- ing people. So, it could, like, focus on the good  side, but not the bad side.” She added, describing how online dating is portrayed positively  on the media. Though online dating is beneficial for some, others think it’s a risky approach to  dating. Another student at Hillgrove, Cali Haley stated, “I think it can be dangerous.” “They should be like doing background checks on people honestly.” She insisted, stating how apps should go to an extent to  keep users safe. “You can put photos of someone who's younger than you to try to,  like, trick someone with it” Abi Kirk ex- plained, describing how potential predators  can lure in victims. 

However, even though online dating could propose potential threats, there’s ways users can stay safe. “I would definitely not go out with them, and I would report them.” Abi Kirk stated. While theres possibilities of meeting predators on social media, there are affective ways to steer clear of them. “I would try to talk to them about it, and I'd be like, Hey, if you're doing this, just please make sure you're  being safe.” She included, suggesting ways to keep others safe from  predators. Online dating is a huge  part of the internet, and it’s important to know what to do in certain cases.  

Online dating is definitely beneficial to many, allowing them to meet  new people. However, the idea of online dating could cause potential harm to those who use it. Staying aware and cautious of who is behind the screen is an important factor on how to say safe and avoid threats.
