Monopoly Vs. Monopoly Go By: Makayla Evans 

Monopoly has been a family board game since the 1900s. Up until last year, Monopoly was only a board game, but, around April of 2023, Monopoly stepped into the technology world, and Monopoly Go, was born.

Leander Evans, the aunt of a Hillgrove student, prefers the classic board game of Monopoly, “It's a game I've played since I was young, and it's a game that I like to play and will continue to play” (Leander Evans). These games are often compared, as they are similar yet so different. “They're not the same at all, monopoly go is a faster paced game and has little games within the phone, and the board game is something you play with family and lasts forever when you play” (Leander Evans). Monopoly Go features, sticker albums, mini game events, shutdowns of landmarks, and even robbing the banks of other players... all while utilizing the original Monopoly game board! “My favorite event in Monopoly is the partners game, I get to play with my family members, and we play together to win” (Leander Evans).

Tywanna Collier, A former Hillgrove student, favors the mobile app instead, “I would prefer the app over the board game because I can take it everywhere I go, and I don't need people to play with me” (Tywanna Collier). Despite this game being new, it has been given a lot of attention on the app store, and captivating to those who loved the original game. Even though the game has been out for decades, a fresh mobile Monopoly shocked thousands around the world. “I feel like monopoly finally realized that they need to get into the app game as well. So maybe it took developers a long time to kind of figure out how to incorporate it into an app and how they're going to keep the monopoly brand alive” (Tywanna Collier).

Tynesha Evans, a former Hillgrove student, has been playing Monopoly Go since

it first came out, despite not playing the board game as much. It has been a battle between luck and strategy on this app, making it difficult to know what will happen without a game plan. “Definitely strategy because I feel like if you don't come up with a strategy, you're just going to lose all your money and dice. Once you figure out how to clear the game effectively, you'll be fine” (Tynesha Evans). Being a player since the very beginning and seeing how fast this app has grown and got so popular after the first year in use, must have been an interesting journey; Gaining more and more friends and family on the app and seeing the game everywhere! “I think they advertise it very well, they put their ads on so many different platforms and social media, that’s how it became so popular” (Tynesha Evans).

As they say, the rich will always continue to get richer, and the adaptation of Monopoly into the mobile app has only helped this game expand! In the first year of Monopoly’s creation, the franchise has only skyrocketed, and it is only up from here.
