A controversial topic on social media arises. After the Victoria Secret fashion show, many people have had a concern in the merging of influencers into these big industries. Influencers including Quinn Blackwell and Addison Rae have made major marks in other industries other than the social media world. The concern isn't of the people but the opportunities that are being stolen from other hardworking entertainers that don't get as much attention. Many people think that this change is just a way to gain more money; others say that it's a way of inclusivity between all types of people.
At Hillgrove high school, everyone has a different opinion. Hillgrove senior William Story says, “I feel like influencers were already kind of the entertainment, but I do feel that they are getting more acknowledged because they are getting paid more.” This is kind of true since the pandemic influencing became a way for people to make money and provide tons of jobs and the entertainment we know today. Meanwhile Hillgrove junior Sydney Greer says “I feel like it depends on who the influencer is because they must have the talent for it and shoot there going for it. But if you're not talented don’t you're not chosen.” most influencers really do have talent, and some don’t and as we have seen many who do get the higher opportunities than the ones who don't. Even though there's good with the coming of there also can be bad. Junior Sydney Greer says, “social media is not good for entertainment. Social media. Social media isn't good because how everything is betrayed because if an influencer dose something bad it's not as bad as if a celebrity was to do something bad.” Society does hold celebrities to a higher standard than influencers because of their social differences. This can also be betrayed as unfair because of the way celebrities can have so much backlash while influencers can have leeway with everything they do, yet influencers can come into celebrity spaces and be portrayed as one. Although that's where inclusivity comes into play. We are lowering that high standard bar and allowing influencers to come into the industry. We are saying that anybody can be in the industry, people don't have to be a famous star.
