Squid Game is a Netflix original drama thriller series that takes a variety of games and puts a twist on each of them. Contestants must successfully beat the game, or it will cost them their life. The winner would receive a huge piggy bank full of money. Back in late 2021, this series became popular and known for its unique twists and turns in every episode. So popular that a reality version of the show was created two years later in 2023, allowing people to try and beat the game themself. Fans have been waiting for the release date for season two of Squid Game, and it is finally confirmed. December 26th the highly anticipated season will be released!
Leander Evans, the aunt of a Hillgrove high school student, favors the glass game. In this game, contestants were lined up on a high bridge and had to choose to jump on one of two glass panes laid in front of them, one in which would break, causing them to fall to their doom. The debate of the Squid game being easy to survive is a tough one, given every game is so different. "I would absolutely not survive the squid game; I would get past red light green light and that is the only one I can guarantee" (Leander Evans). This series was also very known to be an emotional roller coaster. With only one winner allowed, getting attached to multiple characters can be extremely devastating watching them go. "What I found emotional was when my favorite characters started dying. In these shows, they pin people against the ones you like, and you know one of them is going to die, especially if they are playing against the main character' (Leander Evans). As the season two release date gates closer, there are a lot of theories and guesses on what will happen next, creating anticipation and suspense for excited fans. "In season two, I think the main character who won the game is going to go back and become the game master and there will be a whole bunch of new people" (Lender Evans).
Grace Salley, a junior at Hillgrove high school, favors the cookie game. Despite the series being unrealistic, it highlights a lot of real-world issues and weaknesses of humans. "This series shows how desperate people can get when money is involved, especially poor people and criminals trying to better their lives" (Grace Salley). Not only does it reflect on real issues, but it also gives the viewers a lesson to take into consideration. "A lesson I would say is don’t be greedy, because a lot of those people died being greedy" (Grace Salley).
Kate Ivester, a junior at Hillgrove high school, also favors the cookie game. The games that the contestants play really influence the storyline and plot, while also influencing the viewer’s opinions on the characters. "Just like what they say, going through struggles and tragedy bonds people" (Kat Ivester). The deeper into the show, the more it shows the true nature of humans. "The show says basically people would do anything for money or to survive" (Kate Ivester). Despite all odds, Kate believes this game is easily beatable. "Yes I would survive because the cookie game would be a little too easy, people could hide behind me, tug of war I got strength on me you know?" (Kate Ivester).
As season two gets closer to being viewed by the public, many fans are making inferences, rewatching season one, and planning to watch it with their loved ones. It has been a long time since the show’s prime era, and time will only tell if season two will also have a huge impact worldwide.
